WhatsApp Adds Joinable Call Feature to Group Chats

WhatsApp is enhancing its joinable calls experience by integrating the feature directly into group chats.

The feature was first introduced in July, allowing users to join an ongoing call at any point in the discussion. Now you can simply tap the “Join” button in the top right corner of a group chat window to insert yourself into the conversation. Only people who are part of the group can join a call, which comes with a “lighter,” more distinct ringtone that feels “as light as sending and receiving a message,” WhatsApp said in an email to PCMag.

All in-process group video calls are clearly marked in your chat list, visible as soon as you open the mobile app. WhatsApp also refreshed its notifications, which now display the group name rather than individual participants.

“We are making it easier to connect spontaneously with your groups,” WhatsApp explained. “Join ongoing calls with your groups anytime, effortlessly and directly from the chat view with one click.”
