New behind-the-scenes footage of Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom released during DC FanDome was light on plot, but did reveal that the upcoming sequel will have epic scenes on beaches and snowy mountains and in cities and caves. The announcement is part of the festivities and wall-to-wall announcements during DC FanDome–the comics giant’s free, global virtual fan event.

Several cast members emphasized that the movie will be bigger, better, and more fun. Perhaps no one involved with the production summed it up better than producer Peter Safran, who said simply, “The world is at stake.” Production for the film got underway back in July, so it’s reasonable to expect it won’t be too long before plot details start to come out–you can tell so far that they’ve been busy and have already filmed quite a lot.

Even if the clip didn’t technically make a bunch of new announcements, it did serve as a great showcase for how some familiar faces and newcomer characters look in their costumes.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is directed by James Wan, who helmed 2019’s first Aquaman, as well as hits such as Fast 7, The Conjuring, and the original Saw. Many of the main cast from the first film are returning too, including Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry. It hits theaters on December 16, 2022.
